KETCHIKAN, ALASKA (2010-01-07) Beginning Friday, Ketchikan Public Utilities will start operating diesel generators at a cost of $36,000 a day. KPU says a surge in electricity usage and dry weather last year is causing the utility to rely on costly diesel power.

This is a sad story. The Swan Lake - Tyee Intertie was supposed to deliver more energy to Ketchikan. So where is that energy? Why is Ketchikan Public Utilities and SEPA opposing what will bring prosperity and more reliable energy to the region?
ReplyDeleteKetchikan Public Utilities needs to get off the dime and start supporting public and private initiatives to bring more energy generation to the region.
It can do so by supporting the City and Borough of Wrangell led initiative with municipal and tribal governments such as Angoon, Pelican, Tlingit-Haida Energy and others which are joining the Alaska Canada Energy Coalition.
